COUNTED

COUNTED is a feature documentary about the fight to end prison birth.

COUNTED follows Pamela Winn, a previously incarcerated activist, as she fights to end prison birth. After successfully ending the shackling of pregnant people in prison (as documented in our short film WINN), Pamela sets her sights on a much bigger goal: ending prison birth all together.

COUNTED exposes the hidden horrors that over 55,000 pregnant women face annually behind bars. With no national standards of care, expecting mothers are vulnerable to shackling, solitary confinement and even delivering babies in their cells.

Currently in production.

WHY A FEATURE?

We created WINN to showcase Pamela's fight to end the shackling of pregnant people in prison, and also show her power to create change by using her story. At the same time, we had been engaged with people within the community like Dr. Carolyn Sufrin and Ostara Initiative and understood that the real issue begins from incarcerating pregnant women in the first place. In our early conversations with Pamela, this was our aligned goal - End Prison Birth. We wish to document this movement to end prison birth in our nation and use this film as a tool to create monumental change.

COUNTED, our feature length documentary currently in production, not only allows us to take the story outside of Georgia, but it also allows us to bring in the stories of other women who are joining Pamela in this fight.

We hope that this film can help end prison birth in the United States once and for all. If you want to support COUNTED, or if you are a person directly impacted and want to participate in the film, please contact us here:
